Design Meaning
Saint Matthias had already followed Christ and remained among the disciples before he was
selected to join the twelve.
His calling was not the beginning of his faithfulness. It revealed the faithfulness that had already been formed in him.
The sacred book represents his witness to the Gospel. The traditional axe represents
martyrdom and perseverance. The angels and church architecture connect his calling to the
continuing mission of the Apostles.
